Glowworms |
|
Glow Worms are
the larvae of the Fungus Gnat. The characteristic glow
is emitted by the larvae as a lure to attract prey to the sticky silk threads
which it hangs in the banks of the forest. They can be seen at Melba
Gully. Walk down the path to Annie's Cascade. Don't forget to turn
off your torch. Wait a few minutes and you will marvel as the whole area
begins to glow like small stars.
Continue back along the same way. The other path leading to the Big Tree is best left to daytime visits. Also keep and eye out for the Otway Carnivorous Snail or Otway Black Snail. |
