We are currently looking at developing a wildlife rehabilitation and rescue centre for injured wildlife in our area. Sadly, it is estimated that over 90% of orphaned wildlife returned to the wild do not survive in their first year. This is because they do not have the complete life skills required to survive. Many are killed by foxes or cats and many cannot compete with the other more dominant animals of their species. At Fauna Australia Wildlife Retreat we want to build large enclosures, to teach them survival skills like predator identification, what to eat and through interaction with our captive animals, how to defend themselves and fight for territorial rights. Injured wildlife could be rehabilitated in their local environment, and released back into the wild, hopefully before they loose their place in their society. With the purchase of radio tracking equipment, we will be able to determine the survival ratio, and therefore the success of our programs. |
